Effective Degree Days
In agriculture, it is not calendar days but Degree-days that are used to predict crop and insect development. RIMpro includes a table with the basic accumulation of degree days for different thresholds within the model list.
Different threshold temperatures and beginning accumulation dates are used to determine accumulated heat units for different crops. The threshold, or base temperature, is the temperature under which no significant crop development is expected. The RIMpro model gives insights into the effective degree days.
The Model
The module for calculating degree days is fully customisable.
You have to define
- A start date for the calculations
- The name you wish to give your model (e.g. “gala flowering” or “codling moth emergence”)
- A threshold temperature
- Your calculation target in degree-days
- The colour to be displayed on the graph
Then click on « recalculate and show ».
The tool calculates the degree-days and is able to predict when the target will be reached, based on the available weather data.
If you tick “Global” this model will be duplicated for all your locations.
You can choose to display the model on the graph or not by ticking “Show on chart”
You can create as many models as you like
